They've charmed the world with their romantic love affair, engagement and eagerly awaited royal wedding. The Lifetime Original Movie WILLIAM & KATE tells the story of Prince William (Nico Evers-Swindell, NCIS: Los Angeles, Law & Order) and Kate Middleton (Camilla Luddington, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, The Defenders), from the moment they met at the University of St. Andrews to the intense media attention surrounding thei! r storybook romance. William & Kate also stars Ben Cross (Char! iots of Fire) as Prince Charles, Serena Scott-Thomas (The World Is Not Enough) as Carole Middleton, Richard Reid (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone) as Ian and Victoria Tennant (L.A. Story) as Celia. The royal love story of Prince William and comely commoner Kate Middleton captured the hearts of the world, and the Lifetime movie William & Kate takes viewers deep inside the relationship. William & Kate is well acted and no expense was spared to re-create key parts of Scotland and England as a lush backdrop to this modern-day fairy tale. William is played quite competently by Nico Evers-Swindell, and conveys just the right amount of the reserve and wry humor the prince is known for. Camilla Luddington plays Middleton, and her performance is spunky and appealing. The story starts at the beautiful campus of St. Andrews in Scotland, where William and Kate share classes and become friends--Middleton not particularly intimidated by the prince's title, and thinking there's ! no chance for a romance with a commoner, anyway. So they become good friends, and the rest unfolds as the viewer knows--but with detail and charm added to make the story all the more real. As with any based-on-a-true-story film, William & Kate lends itself to the second-guessing of casting. But both Evers-Swindell and Luddington, though not doppelgängers for William and Kate, look enough like their real-life counterparts to be quite believable. However, Ben Cross (Chariots of Fire) is simply too distractingly handsome to be very believable as Prince Charles. Viewers keep having to remind themselves that handsome guy is Prince Charles, which does take away from the flow of William & Kate. But for fans of the Royal Family, history buffs, and lovers of a sweet modern-day fairy tale, William & Kate makes for splendid viewing indeed. --A.T. The occasion of HRH Prince William's marriage to Catherine Middleton is a Royal Wedding steeped in history. The couple chose Westminster Abbey because of its "staggering beauty, its 1000 years of royal history and its relative intimacy despite its size".
In the last 100 years, Westminster Abbey has played host to ten royal weddings, including those of The Duke of
York to Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon (who became George VI and Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother) and The Queen, then Princess Elizabeth, to Lieutenant Phillip Mountbatten. The coronation of every crowned monarch has taken place in the Abbey since it was built by Edward the Confessor on the site of a former monastery in the ! 11th century - the first that of William the Conqueror in 1066! and the most recent that of William's grandmother Elizabeth II in 1953.
James Wilkinson has been associated with the Abbey since he was a chorister there in the early 1950s; in 1953 he sang at the Queen's coronation. During a career in journalism he was the BBC s science correspondent for twenty-five years. He is now one of the Abbey's Honorary Stewards and the author of many publications about the Abbey.
